CONNECTING COMMUNITIES: BIKE BUSES

What is a “Bike Bus”?

Bike buses are organized bike rides that you can join or leave anywhere along the route. Typically parents form a bike bus in conjunction with their local school, in order to promote safer and more enjoyable transportation to and from school car free. Each bike bus has a "Driver" who looks after the group as well as other adult participants who help guide riders across junctions along the route.

Where can I learn about starting my own bike bus?

Various organizations promote bike buses forming and organizing bike buses with guides on how to start one in your community. Bike Bus World, in particular, has a resource page for starting your own bike bus: https://bikebus.world/how-to-start-a-bike-bus.

Have you started a bike bus, and your school/kids need more resources?

Connect Pinellas has certified helmet fitters volunteers, who can come to your event to provide free helmets. We also work on procurement and funding for bike racks and locks, which can be a major hurdle when creating a bike bus program. Contact us for more information on how we can help support your bike bus program at info@connectpinellas.org

Are there any bike buses already started in Pinellas County? Yes!
